Social media crisis management in 9 steps [2026 guide]

Key takeaways A social media crisis is a sudden shift in online conversation that threatens trust and reputation, not just a single negative comment. Effective social media crisis management starts before anything goes wrong, with clear roles, escalation tiers, and pre-approved response templates. The 15-20-60-90 response timeline helps teams acknowledge, respond, and update without losing credibility. Social listening tools like Lumen in Hootsuite Social OS help detect early warning signs before they escalate. What is social media crisis management? Social media crisis management is the way brands prepare for and manage negative moments that spread on social media. Think about a public explanation or apology posted by a CEO when someone surfaces a problem. That response is part of a social media crisis strategy. Is Meta Business Suite is freaking frustrating to use or am I just stupid?

My needs for Facebook page is really simple: I need to schedule image posts, sometimes several images a post. And right now I can't do any of these things:

  • add caption for each image in a scheduled post: if there are more than one image, there's no option to add caption for each of them. I have to set my alarm to add after they're posted.
  • add scheduled images straight to an album: again, I have to set my alarm to add them. and if I have a post with multiple images, I can't add it to an album on my laptop, I have to go to the Facebook app on my phone
  • add multiple images to an album: I just can't figure out how to select multiple images to add/move to an album at once, one thing I remember I could do back in the day where "Meta Business Suite" wasn't even a thing
  • move images that belong in a post to another album: if I add a post with >1 images to an album, that's a done deal. I can't figure out how to move it, or any of the image to another album
  • select multiple images to rearrange them in an album: every time I want to rearrange any image, I have to drag them through a plethora of other images. doesn't help that the thumbnails get so big for caption editing. and if I let go of my mouse, the page just reloads. I have to find my image in the sea of image again and drag through everything. it's so tiring. and yeah I have to do it one by one…

Sorry for the rant. I feel like these functions are all basic and we should be able to do them in the Suite or on our pages without that much sweat and tears.

Again, maybe there are obvious solutions and I'm just being stupid. If you know any solution to any point I have above, please share. I've even tried paid tools but nothing has helped so far. I'm really exhausting right now. Thanks guys.
