4 months marketing on social media... Insights
I'm marketing for a professional photographer/contemporary artist. They have exhibited internationally, not the kind of work you'd see in most living rooms, but neither is a lot of great work. They're good and consistent, not popular, and not young/beautiful so their image has been about the work only.
Photographer started from zero. Spent 4 months posting 21 works on IG, photographer didn't connect with any people they know personally unrelated to art (so that personal friends/family didn't poison the stats). Didn't do any 'stories' as there's not really a way to produce content that would fit their work and image.
After four months, artist just reached 100 hard earned followers.
Having seen other artists who post pretty subjectively non-appealing work regularly, but who have thousands of followers, i would say the amount of work required, at this rate, to get to that level would be unsustainable. It would take years of being constantly on the platform, and the artist doesn't have thousands of works.
How the heck are people getting thousands of followers if they're not young/beautiful? The amount of work required seems to be staggering.
